🎤 Community Collective Brings Big Sound and Bigger Talent to the Heart of the City

IPSWICH, QLD – A local musical movement is striking a chord with Ipswich residents, as Ken and Lisa from the Ipswich Live Music Collective continue their mission to reignite the city’s live music scene.

Speaking on West Bremer Radio’s Get Your Arts in Gear, the duo shared their vision: creating more performance opportunities for local musicians and singers, and drawing crowds back into the city with high-quality, themed live shows.

“There’s a real gap since COVID,” Ken said. “Fewer venues are hosting live bands — many have replaced them with DJs or solo acts. We’re bringing that magic back.”

🎶 This Weekend: Postmodern Cabaret at the Hotel Commonwealth

Their latest event, Postmodern Cabaret, is set for this Saturday night at the newly refurbished Hotel Commonwealth. For just $15, audiences can expect a dazzling show featuring jazz-era renditions of modern hits, in the style of Postmodern Jukebox.

“It’s a $70 show for $15,” Ken added. “We keep it affordable and inclusive while showcasing amazing talent.”

The event will feature a performance by the Ipswich RSL Stage Band and the Knockout Collective — the group’s house band — accompanied by a rotating lineup of local vocalists.

🎤 A Launchpad for Local Talent

In the past year, over 200 singers have joined the Knockout Collective on stage. From student vocalists to seasoned musicians returning after a break, the initiative fosters collaboration and community.

“We’ve even had Cambrian Choir members, Ipswich City Band musicians, and RSL horn players jump in,” said Ken. “We’re a bridge between the different music communities in Ipswich.”

Auditions for new vocalists and musicians are ongoing, and the group encourages anyone interested to reach out via their Facebook page: Ipswich Live Music.
