New Hiddenvale Road Bridge Officially Open

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding has praised the completion of the Hiddenvale Road Bridge at Calvert, which has replaced a 65-year-old timber structure. The new dual-lane bridge, funded through a $3.9 million Federal Bridges Renewal Program grant and an additional $1 million from Ipswich City Council, is built higher and stronger to accommodate heavier loads.

“This is a great upgrade for locals, motorists, and pedestrians, and I appreciate everyone’s patience during the construction process,” Mayor Harding said.

Ash Barty’s Legacy Lives On with New Playground

Australian tennis champion Ash Barty has left her mark on Ipswich, not with a statue, but with a state-of-the-art playground in Brookwater. Instead of accepting a commemorative plaque or statue, Barty directed state government funding towards creating a tennis-themed play space, now named the Ash Barty Playground.

“It’s a beautiful park featuring a half-court, rebound wall, and a handball area—hopefully inspiring the next generation of champions,” Mayor Harding said.

Vice Regal Visits to Support Flood Recovery

Ipswich welcomed two vice-regal visits last week, with both Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC and Queensland Governor Dr. Jeannette Young AC PSM meeting with residents impacted by recent flooding. The visits aimed to provide support and advocate for extending the voluntary home buyback scheme.

“They saw firsthand the devastation and heard directly from affected residents, which will help in pushing for further assistance,” Mayor Harding said.

Community Recovery Hub Assisting Residents

For residents still affected by floods, the Community Recovery Hub in Nicholas Street, Ipswich CBD, remains open, providing assistance with state and federal grant applications.

“If you need support, I encourage you to visit the hub or call the 24/7 disaster recovery hotline at 1800 173 349,” she advised.

Four Lanes Now Open at Springfield Central Exit 32

Springfield motorists received a welcome relief with the opening of four lanes at Exit 32 for the first time, easing congestion at the Springfield Greenbank Arterial and Main Road intersection.

“This is a long-awaited improvement, and while line marking is still to be completed once the weather clears, the lanes are fully operational,” Mayor Harding confirmed.

Ipswich’s Own Olympian Gout Gout Recognized

Ipswich’s rising star Gout Gout was recently featured in a special Channel 7 program, earning praise from former Olympians for his dedication and talent.

“He has a bright future ahead, and the entire Ipswich community is behind him,” Mayor Harding said.

Mayor Harding will return next week with more updates on Ipswich’s ongoing projects and community initiatives.
