Saturday’s All Ability Hour on West Bremer Radio featured a passionate guest from the disability sector, Maddie from Dignity and Transition Support Services (DATSS), who shared insights into the organisation’s inclusive approach and her personal journey within the industry.
Hosted by DJ Sparky and Patti from Focal Community Services, the show shone a light on the vital work being done to support people living with disabilities in Ipswich and beyond. Maddie explained that DATSS offers a wide range of services including support coordination, in-home support, respite, SIL (Supported Independent Living), and community access.
“We’re very person-centred,” Maddie said. “Our empathy and dedication to helping people live as independently as possible is what really sets us apart.”
Having been inspired by her mother’s work in the disability employment sector, Maddie’s path into the industry began early. Her involvement performing at Christmas events for Focal as a child also left a lasting impression. “It gave me my passion,” she said. “It’s where I feel most at home.”
Now working as a support coordinator, Maddie helps NDIS participants organise their care, therapy and daily needs, including during crisis situations. She described a recent case where her team acted within an hour to support a family in urgent need, highlighting their commitment to both participants and their families.
“We focus on keeping our participants happy and healthy, while also supporting families through times of burnout or care fatigue,” she added.
DATSS currently has capacity to take on new participants and can be contacted at https://www.datss.net/ or 0475 169 466.
The All Ability Hour returns next Saturday with more conversations celebrating inclusion, support, and local services making a difference in the community.
