School holiday crowds are packing out Limelight Cinemas this week, with a fresh line-up of blockbusters and special events drawing families and film fans alike.
One of the most anticipated new releases is One Battle After Another, a crime drama starring Sean Penn and Leonardo DiCaprio. The thriller has already earned a 97 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences praising its tense storyline. “It’s another of those evil resurfacing-after-16-years kind of films, but it looks really good,” said Robbie from Limelight Cinemas.
Horror fans are also in for a treat with The Strangers: Chapter Two. The sequel comes 16 years after the original cult hit and stars Riverdale’s Madelaine Petsch. “Horrors are my thing,” Robbie said. “I’ve been watching them since I was a kid, so I’m excited for this one.”
But perhaps the biggest drawcard is Taylor Swift’s Life of a Showgirl, screening this Saturday to coincide with the release of her 12th studio album. With sessions starting at 5am, the film features behind-the-scenes footage, a new music video for Fate of Ophelia and never-before-seen insights into the album’s creation. “It’s going to be massive for Swifties,” Robbie said.
Families also have plenty to choose from, with Kangaroo, Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, Bad Guys 2 and Dora’s Mermaid Adventures all screening. Special school holiday deals include $30 family passes for three tickets, $40 for four, and $20 Gold Class kids’ tickets.
“Grandparents especially are loving the Australian films and bringing their grandkids along,” Robbie added.
