Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding has confirmed the contractor chosen to deliver the first stage of the long-awaited North Ipswich Reserve Western Grandstand, marking a major milestone for the city’s sporting future.

In an exclusive announcement on West Bremer Radio, Mayor Harding revealed that Buildcorp, a renowned family-owned construction firm, has secured the design and construction contract. The company, with more than $9 billion worth of completed projects—including works at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, UQ, and Valleymore Stadium—was selected from 11 high-quality submissions.

“This is the first stage of what will eventually become the North Ipswich Sports and Entertainment Precinct,” Mayor Harding said. “We’re grateful for the $20 million from the Federal Government, $10 million from the State, and $10 million from Council to get this crucial component underway.”

The project forms part of Council’s scaled approach to future stadium development after initial full-build estimates exceeded $220 million.

Libraries Hit Record Numbers

A bright spot in the city’s cultural landscape is the continued rise of Ipswich Libraries. More than 1.15 million items were borrowed last financial year, with the Ipswich Children’s Library breaking school holiday visitation records—30,000 guests during the September break alone.

The unique stand-alone children’s library continues to attract national and international interest, including a delegation from the National Library of Korea earlier this year.

City Ready to Shine for Christmas

With the city’s Christmas tree now lit, preparations are complete for the launch of the St Nicholas Precinct this Friday. Mayor Harding described the setup as “jaw-dropping,” praising Council’s events team and volunteers for delivering one of the state’s most popular festive attractions.

The precinct will also host a Low Sensory Night on December 15, ensuring families with sensory sensitivities can enjoy the experience comfortably.

Residents are encouraged to explore the precinct’s many dining options and keep up with festivities through the Mayor’s social media channels.

Mayor Harding will return next week for her final segment of the year before Council’s festive break.
