Ipswich will once again take centre stage as the Ipswich Little Theatre’s One-Act Play Festival returns this weekend, marking an extraordinary 69 years of continuous performances.
Running Friday night through Sunday at the historic Burley Griffin Theatre, the festival will feature 16 plays performed by theatre groups from across South-East Queensland and as far as New South Wales.
Jim Orr, whose play Watch Your Head has already won awards at Toowoomba and Beenleigh, says the event is more than just a competition.
“We’ve got an amazing mix of talent and a great sense of camaraderie. We’re competitors, but we’re also friends. Everyone pitches in to help each other,” Mr Orr said.
The festival will showcase a wide range of works — from comedy to drama, youth performances, and 10-minute plays — ensuring there’s something for every theatre-goer.
Tickets are just $10 per session, with multi-session passes available. Audiences are urged to book early, especially for Saturday night, which is nearing capacity.
“We’re the best-supported one-act play festival in South-East Queensland,” Mr Orr said. “People love the warm welcome, the great food, and the chance to see incredible performances right here in Ipswich.”
Bookings can be made at ILT.org.au, with limited tickets also available at the door.
