Ipswich’s creative community has received a major boost with the opening of a new multi-purpose arts hub in Limestone Street, offering gallery space, studios and workshops for local artists.
The new Limestone Gallery and Studios was officially promoted on West Bremer Radio’s Get Your Arts Into Gear program, where founder and artist Rebecca shared her vision for the space.
Located in the historic former CWA Hall beside the Civic Centre, the venue includes exhibition areas, private studios, retail space and a dedicated workshop room.
Rebecca said the idea grew from her own experience running creative classes and the need for more accessible spaces in the community.
“I saw a gap and felt it was something Ipswich really needed,” she said.
The gallery is currently hosting Angles of Incidents by artist Cynthia Copley, which runs until March 14. The exhibition is open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10.30am to 4pm.

Alongside exhibitions, the gallery offers regular workshops, including metal clay and jewellery-making classes, held every second Friday. Monthly “make and chat” sessions and critique nights also provide opportunities for artists to network and share feedback.
Rebecca, who moved to Ipswich in 2020 after working as a veterinary technologist, said she hopes the space will become a creative hub for both emerging and established artists.
“I’m happy to talk to anyone who wants to exhibit or get involved,” she said.
Program host Glen Smith also confirmed he has been re-elected president of Arts Connect Ipswich, with major events already planned for the year.
These include activities at the Ipswich Show, a mural competition in partnership with local businesses, and the annual arts awards, which will expand this year to include public nominations via QR codes.
“The awards aren’t just about visual art,” Smith said. “They cover performance, literature, dance, and the people behind the scenes as well.”
The segment also highlighted upcoming events, including the “On Paper” exhibition and colour competition at local art retailer Art Time, and a Valentine’s Day performance by award-winning soprano Sophie Salvastani at St Paul’s Church Ipswich.
Smith said the concert, priced at $25, would be a rare chance to see an internationally recognised local performer.
“She’s one of the major voices our city has produced,” he said.
With new venues opening and a packed calendar ahead, presenters said 2026 is shaping up to be a big year for the Ipswich arts community.
Residents can find more information about Limestone Gallery and upcoming workshops through its Instagram page, while Arts Connect will release further details about events and awards later this year.
