Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster The Odyssey is proving to be one of the biggest cinema events of the year, with audiences and critics alike praising the epic film as moviegoers continue to flock to Limelight Cinemas.

Speaking on the Limelight Cinemas podcast, Marketing Manager Lex said the film has exceeded expectations, earning impressive ratings and delivering a cinematic experience best enjoyed on the biggest screen possible.

“Rotten Tomatoes currently has it sitting at 95 per cent with critics and 97 per cent with audiences,” she said.

“That’s a real testament to the films Christopher Nolan produces.”

Featuring an all-star cast, The Odyssey runs for approximately three hours, but Lex said audiences are leaving the cinema surprised by how quickly the time passes.

“People come out asking, ‘Was that really three hours?’ because they’re engaged for the whole film,” she said.

“There isn’t a moment where you’re checking your watch.”

She encouraged moviegoers to experience the film in Limelight’s XD Cinema, featuring wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling screens and laser projection technology designed to showcase Nolan’s IMAX cinematography.

“The biggest piece of advice is to see it on the biggest screen you can,” she said.

Intermissions Could Return

The lengthy runtime has also reignited discussion about whether cinemas should bring back movie intermissions.

Lex admitted she would welcome the idea for longer films.

“If Nolan’s going to keep pushing out three-hour films, I’d love an intermission,” she joked.

“It would be great if filmmakers provided a natural point where cinemas could pause the movie so people can stretch their legs, grab another snack or duck out to the bathroom.”

Marvel Fans Counting Down

Marvel fans also have plenty to look forward to after the release of the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday.

Lex said excitement among cinema staff and moviegoers has been enormous.

“My team came into work the next morning asking if I’d seen the trailer,” she said.

“It’s absolutely delivered.”

The trailer attracted more than 34 million views within its first 12 hours, with anticipation already building for its December release.

Limelight expects one of its busiest periods ever when Avengers: Doomsday opens on the same day as Dune: Part Three, creating what Lex believes could become another major box-office phenomenon.

“It’s going to be absolutely chaotic, but I can’t wait,” she said.

Pyjamas for Popcorn Returns

Closer to home, Limelight Cinemas is once again supporting the National Pyjama Foundation through its popular PJs for Popcorn fundraiser.

On Friday, 24 July, $1 from every popcorn sold and $2 from every popcorn-and-drink combo purchased across Limelight’s three cinema locations will be donated to the foundation.

“It’s National Pyjama Day, and we wanted to give everyone a good excuse to wear their pyjamas to the movies,” Lex said.

“You can sit back in your PJs with a box of popcorn, knowing you’re supporting a really good cause.”

Limelight Cinemas will announce the total amount raised across its social media channels following the event.
