Ipswich is set to come alive with breathtaking stunts, dazzling performances and laugh-out-loud comedy when Ashton Circus rolls into town from September 12 to 21 at the Ipswich Showgrounds.

The world-renowned circus has been entertaining audiences across Australia for generations, and locals now have the chance to experience the magic firsthand. Among the cast is performer Matilda, who has been part of the Ashton family for the past six months.

Matilda’s act, the Cyr Wheel, is a crowd favourite. “It’s a big metal hoop, kind of like a giant hula hoop,” she explained. “I spin around on the ground, do tricks and go upside down—it’s something you don’t see every day.”

Her journey to the circus began more than a decade ago. “I started as a dancer, then trampolining and tumbling, which led me to circus school. My parents used to joke that I’d run away to the circus one day, and I guess I did,” she laughed.

The show promises something for everyone, from daring aerial routines to side-splitting comedy and the death-defying Globe of Death motorbike riders, an act so intense that even fellow performers admit it makes them nervous to watch.

“I love performing my part of the show, but I also get to see so many other talented acts. It really is an amazing experience,” Matilda said.

Ashton Circus will perform under the big top at the Ipswich Showgrounds. Tickets start from $15 and are available now at ashtonentertainment.com.au.

With limited shows scheduled, organisers are encouraging families to book early to avoid missing out on one of the oldest and most loved circus troupes in Australia.
