Badminton enthusiasts in Ipswich have reason to celebrate with the opening of a new badminton facility in Carole Park. Located on Mica Place, the centre boasts eight professional-grade courts available for hire from morning to night, catering to the growing popularity of the sport within the local community.

Division 1 Councillor Pye Augustine shared the exciting news during an interview, highlighting the unexpected way this initiative came together. “A couple of months ago, the mayor and I attended a badminton and cricket event where they expressed a need for a badminton centre in Ipswich,” she said. “Just weeks later, I received a call from a gentleman named June, who had secured a warehouse for the courts. These two groups knew nothing of each other, but now Ipswich has a fantastic badminton facility!”

The centre, run by YS Badminton, has quickly become a hive of activity, especially during the evenings from 5 pm to 9 pm, with up to six players on each court every hour.

Adding to the excitement, the facility is hosting a school holiday camp for children aged 6 to 16. This program offers a great opportunity for young players to sharpen their skills locally instead of traveling to Brisbane for training. The holiday camp will be held at Carole Park during the upcoming school break.

“Badminton is incredibly popular, particularly within the Asian and Indian communities,” said Cr Augustine. “Watching these athletes play is inspiring—it’s a fast-paced, highly physical sport that requires agility and precision.”
