Labor MP Jim Madden has resigned from state parliament, effective immediately, to run for Ipswich City Council in the March local government elections.
Mr Madden had previously announced his intention to retire in October.
In a letter to caucus colleagues, he stated that although resigning from state parliament, he is not stepping away from public life. He will contest division four in the Ipswich City Council election.
Premier Steven Miles will recommend the Governor of Queensland call the Ipswich West by-election for Saturday 16 March, 2024. The date coincides with local government elections.
The Labor Party has selected Wendy Bourne to run for Ipswich West in the upcoming state election.
“In the meantime, the electorate office will continue to be open for enquiries and my Ministers and I will be accessible to the constituents of Ipswich West if they need any support”, the Premier said
