In a heartwarming and insightful episode of the All Abilities Hour on West Bremer Radio, DJ Sparky and Patti welcomed a range of guests who exemplify the power of inclusion and advocacy in the disability community. Central to the show was the discussion with Brendan and Brad from “Brighter Living,” a Special Disability Accommodation (SDA) provider committed to improving the living conditions for people with disabilities under the NDIS.

Brighter Living’s mission, “Creating homes where every ability shines,” reflects their dedication to focusing on the strengths and abilities of participants rather than their limitations. Brendan, who crafted the mission statement, shared his personal journey living with cerebral palsy and how the NDIS has significantly improved his life. “Since the introduction of the NDIS, my life has improved tenfold. I have more choice and control about how I live my life and where I want my life to go,” Brendan explained.

The episode also featured Tom and Dom from Focal, who shared their love story and experiences in the disability world, including their involvement in performing arts and sports. Their engagement story was a highlight, showcasing the joy and challenges of love and life within the disability community.

Throughout the show, Brendan’s advocacy for people with disabilities stood out. Having navigated the complexities of the NDIS himself, he now dedicates his life to helping others achieve their goals and live as independently as possible. He emphasized the importance of including people with disabilities in the decision-making process within the sector, stating, “If you’re going to work in the disability sector, employ participants. They are the strongest advocates for your company.”

The All Abilities Hour continues to shine a light on the stories and achievements of individuals with disabilities, promoting a message of inclusion, empowerment, and brighter living for all.
