Great News for Springfield residents and commuters alike, as the Centenary Highway’s exit number 32 will reopen before Christmas. This will provide much-needed traffic relief for Holiday Traffic.
It was first closed on 21 August to fast-track construction works in a roadwork-heavy section of Springfield, improving safety for workers and saving months of roadworks for the community.
Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee Chair Mayor Teresa Harding said the reopening was just in time for the festive season and the New Year holidays.
“We want to thank the community for their continued patience as work continues on the largest road upgrade in Ipswich’s history, the Springfield Parkway and Springfield Greenbank Arterial duplication,” Mayor Harding said.
“Work has been completed quickly and this means easier access for holiday shopping and activities at Orion Springfield Central, Robelle Domain and Orion Lagoon.
“Closing Exit 32 saved months in construction time and millions in overall project cost, fast-tracking its reopening and significantly reducing congestion on the Centenary Motorway.”
Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Minister for Digital Services, Mark Bailey MP, welcomed the project milestone.
“The Queensland Government has invested $6.5 million to deliver the exit ramp and intersection upgrade for the Springfield community and it is pleasing to see this progress,” Mr Bailey said.
“I look forward to the full benefits being rolled out, including better reliability in travel times and enhanced safety for all road users.”
