Professionals working with children and young people are being encouraged to attend the Ipswich District Child Protection Week Symposium, a professional development event designed to strengthen knowledge, collaboration and best practice in child protection.
Speaking on West Bremer Radio, Senior Constable Chantelle Dowell from the Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit said the symposium forms part of Child Protection Week activities and will be held on 8 September.
“The symposium has been facilitated by the Ipswich District Child Protection Week Committee,” Senior Constable Dowell said.
The committee brings together representatives from the Queensland Police Service, the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety, Ipswich Community Youth Service, Ipswich City Council and Somerset Regional Council.
The event is aimed at professionals working across the child and youth sector, including service providers, school support staff, health professionals and students studying in the human services field.
“The symposium is an excellent professional development opportunity and will address relevant practice issues relating to child protection,” she said.
Attendees will hear from a panel of experienced guest speakers, including Sarah O’Riaghan, Dr Simon Collier, Luke Twyford, Mark Edmonds, and a young person participating in the Life Without Barriers – Next Step Plus Ipswich program, offering a range of professional and lived perspectives on child protection.
The symposium will be held at the Jacaranda Functions Centre, 112–114 Brisbane Terrace, Goodna, from 9am to 1pm on Monday, 8 September.
Places are limited, with tickets priced at $30, which includes morning tea and lunch.
Bookings are essential and close at 5pm on Wednesday, 26 August.
