West Bremer Radio’s AllAbility Hour hosted another inspiring segment on Saturday, with DJ Sparky and Patty from Focal Community Services welcoming special guests Max and Dan. The show provided insight into how Focal helps individuals with disabilities engage in social activities and personal development programs.

Max, an 18-year-old client of Focal, shared his experiences. He enjoys hobbies like gaming, going to the gym, and caring for his aquarium, which houses several fish. Max expressed his gratitude to Focal, noting how their programs have helped him build confidence, improve social skills, and engage in various activities, including cooking classes and the men’s Stepping Out group.

“Focal helps me get to know people better and improve myself,” Max explained. He also participates in Friday night discos, where he’s become quite popular. His enthusiasm for cooking was evident as he talked about his love for making burritos, pasta, and pizza.

Dan, another Focal representative, elaborated on the organization’s group activities, emphasizing programs that help participants develop practical skills like budgeting and travel training. Focal offers various opportunities, from woodwork and creative crafts to photography and film editing, providing a platform for personal growth.

Patti highlighted how Focal’s programs are tailored to meet individual needs, whether clients are looking for sensory experiences or more active pursuits. She also mentioned Focal’s work in fostering friendships and social connections, essential for clients transitioning out of school and into adulthood.

The AllAbility Hour continues to provide a positive platform for promoting inclusivity and the valuable work of local community services like Focal.
