💙 Local Police Encourage Public to Recognise Everyday Heroes

Ipswich residents are being encouraged to show their appreciation this Wednesday, June 11, as part of Thank a First Responder Day — a national day dedicated to recognising the dedication and sacrifice of Australia’s first responders and their families.

Senior Constable Kerrin Sheedy, speaking on West Bremer Radio’s Crime Watch segment, highlighted the significance of the day, describing it as a vital opportunity for the community to acknowledge the “ordinary people with extraordinary spirit” who step forward during crisis and emergency.

“From those responding to disasters, road crashes and rescues, to our furry companions in the police dog squad, and the emergency call-takers who stay calm in the toughest moments — every one of them deserves our thanks,” Sheedy said.

🙌 Support Includes Families Behind the Front Lines

Beyond the men and women in uniform, the day also honours the families and loved ones who support first responders behind the scenes. “They sacrifice so much while their loved ones are out protecting the community — they’re part of the team too,” Sheedy added.

👏 A Simple Thank You Goes a Long Way

Whether it’s a friendly wave, a kind word, or a post on social media, small gestures of gratitude can have a powerful impact. “Appreciation doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful,” Sheedy noted. “Just let them know they’re seen and valued.”

🎧 Celebrating Service at Ripley Valley Fire Brigade

The Crime Watch segment also spotlighted the 30th anniversary of the Ripley Valley Rural Fire Service, where West Bremer Radio joined in the celebrations with a live broadcast and some hands-on fun — including virtual reality firefighting demos and a top-notch sausage sizzle.
