Division 1 Councillor Pye Augustine has had a busy few weeks, celebrating Ipswich’s next generation of leaders, supporting local businesses, and championing community causes across the region.
Cr Augustine recently attended the Rotary Club of Ipswich District’s Youth Speak competition, where students from West Moreton Anglican College, St Peter Claver College, Ipswich Grammar School, Rosewood State High School, and St Edmund’s College delivered powerful speeches on the theme “Unite for Good.”
“These young speakers were sensational,” she said. “We’ve got some future leaders in the making—perhaps even future councillors.”
The councillor also attended the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, where she “dressed for success” in gold among a crowd of local business leaders.
“The Chamber’s awards night is such a great way to recognise our businesses for their hard work and achievements,” Cr Augustine said. “It’s about celebrating those who make our region thrive.”
On the arts front, she helped launch the Tamworth Textile Triennial Exhibition at the Ipswich Art Gallery, a travelling showcase exploring community connections through craft. Visitors are invited to contribute to a collaborative “yellow blanket” by donating knitted or crocheted pieces.
In support of local causes, Cr Augustine also joined a fundraising lunch at the Blackstone Retirement Village, helping raise $3,500 for the Alison Baden-Clay Foundation and Women’s Crisis Support Services.
“It was a wonderful day, full of laughter and generosity—and fashion too,” she said.
Rounding out her week, Cr Augustine presented the Dave Handyside Apprentice of the Year Award alongside Mayor Teresa Harding, recognising local young tradespeople for their dedication.
“Seeing the smiles on those apprentices’ faces—it’s priceless,” she said. “They are the future of our workforce.”
