Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic has provided crucial updates regarding Division 2’s budget and roads, on West Bremer Radio, emphasising significant developments that are set to transform the area’s infrastructure. Speaking on the latest council activities, Jonic highlighted the busy period following the Spark Festival, which recently concluded after 11 nights of vibrant cultural events across the city.
Key among the updates were details on major road projects within Division 2. Two prominent projects, the Springfield Central road duplication and improvements in Redbank Plains, are already underway. The Springfield Central road project, which has been progressing in stages, recently saw the completion of the section next to Brighton Homes Arena. “It’s now nice and wide, making it easier for school runs,” Jonic noted, emphasising the positive impact on local traffic flow.
The major intersection of Springfield Parkway, opened last year, is also set to benefit from these developments. The final stage, involving roadwork on Springfield Parkway, is expected to enhance safety, especially for children crossing near Coles. “Once that’s done, it’s going to make it a lot safer in that Springfield area,” Jonic added.
Starting next weekend, night work will be conducted to expedite these projects. From July 28th, the park and ride multi-story car park will be closed each night from 7 PM to 5 AM for five nights. “This night work is efficient and means we can complete tasks faster, minimising daytime disruption,” she explained.
Jonic also discussed the recently delivered council budget and annual plan, which includes significant allocations for road infrastructure. The budget earmarks $28 million to finalize the Springfield Greenbank arterial upgrades. Additionally, there are plans for curb and channel rehabilitations in Carroll Park and pavement reconstructions in Bellwood Park.
The budget also includes facility upgrades, such as a new sports field on the other side of Eden Station Drive and enhancements to Bob Gibbs Park in Springfield. Furthermore, park infrastructure improvements are planned for Opossum Creek Parklands in Brookwater, featuring rebound walls and nature play areas.
In support of the community, the council has increased the pensioner concession to $258 against their rates for this year. Johnnie encouraged residents to visit the newly upgraded Richardson Park in Goodna, noting its interactive and family-friendly features.
These developments underline the council’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for Division 2 residents. With significant investments in road safety and community facilities, Division 2 is set for a period of substantial growth and improvement.
