The Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ) has officially announced that a by-election for Ipswich City Council Division 4 will be held on 26 October 2024. The by-election, which will coincide with the Queensland State General Election, will be conducted as an attendance ballot.

Nominations for candidates running in the Division 4 by-election will close on Tuesday, 8 October 2024, giving hopefuls a little under a month to enter the race.

The ECQ has estimated the cost of the by-election to be approximately $396,000. Mayor Teresa Harding said that by aligning the by-election with the state election, some cost efficiencies will be achieved. The breakdown of these costs was provided in correspondence from the ECQ to Ipswich City Council, detailing how the shared resources and logistics will help to streamline the process.

Residents of Division 4 will have the opportunity to vote for their next local representative, while also participating in the Queensland State Election on the same day.
