Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic is bringing festive cheer and a focus on environmental preservation to Ipswich’s Division 2 this holiday season. Speaking on West Bremer Radio, Cr. Jonic shared updates on Christmas events, expanding green spaces, and an important flood resilience initiative.

Festive Fun in Division 2

Residents are invited to enjoy a Dive-In Movie Night at Orion Lagoon on December 21, featuring a Christmas-themed family-friendly film starting at 6:30 p.m. For last-minute gift shopping, the Orion Twilight Christmas Market on December 23 will offer unique local gifts.

Shiloh Church’s Christmas Carols are also returning on December 13 and 14, featuring live performances, food trucks, face painting, and fireworks displays. Highlighting the event will be a special performance by X Factor New Zealand finalist Rory McKenna.

“All the details are at ChristmasInIpswich.com.au,” Cr. Jonic said, urging families to soak in the festive spirit.

Preserving Koala Habitats and Green Spaces

On the environmental front, Ipswich City Council has approved the acquisition of 32 hectares in South Ripley to expand the city’s koala habitats. This land forms a crucial ecological corridor connecting White Rock-Spring Mountain and Flinders-Goolman Conservation Estates.

“This acquisition is funded by the Enviroplan levy, which has allowed Council to protect over 7,000 hectares of land,” Cr. Jonic said.

Goodna Residents Asked for Flood Zone Input

Goodna residents are encouraged to share their vision for 500,000 square meters of flood-prone land acquired through the Resilient Homes Fund.

“We want to hear creative ideas from the community,” Cr. Jonic added, noting the land will be rezoned as non-occupiable green space. Feedback can be submitted via Shape Your Ipswich until Sunday.

Season’s Greetings

Deputy Mayor Jonic wished residents a Merry Christmas and said she looks forward to collaborating with the community in 2025.

“We’ve got a lot to look forward to—both festive and meaningful changes ahead.”
