More than 220 lonely hearts are waiting, hoping to find true love this Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s is the perfect opportunity to profess your love; however, that love doesn’t need
to be limited to fellow humans. Pets have lots of love to share every day.
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) hopes Cupid’s arrow will strike the community as they
view the animals available for adoption at the Ipswich Animal Rehoming Centre.
AWLQ Spokesperson, Craig Montgomery, said that to celebrate Valentine’s Day, AWLQ is reducing adoption fees on adult cats, bringing the adoption prices down to just $29, and selected adult dogs will be reduced to just $99.
“We currently have 221 animals, including 96 adult cats, available for adoption across AWLQ’s Beenleigh, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Warra and Willawong Animal Rehoming Centres.

“We’ve been playing match-maker for more than 60 years, and as a result, we have rehomed more
than 175,000 animals. So you could say our success rate is pretty good. Our team know what they’re
doing when it comes to helping people find their perfect companion,” said Mr Montgomery.
The Valentine’s Adoption Sale runs from 8 to 14 February 2023. Visit http://www.awlqld.com.au/adopt to
view the animals available for adoption. AWLQ’s usual adoption process still applies, and we ensure
each animal is adopted by the right owner who can take care of them. In addition, all cats and dogs
are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed.
February is always a busy time at AWLQ, as it falls in line with cat breeding season. So, while love
might be in the air for humans, this Valentine’s Day, AWLQ reminds people to have their pets
desexed.
“Cats are prolific breeders in warm climates, with one female cat capable of having up to three litters
a year. Cats can begin breeding at four months of age, live between 10 and 18 years and have up to
six to eight kittens at a time. It’s a recipe for overpopulation if they aren’t desexed.
“We can’t stress the importance of early desexing enough and urge local cat, and dog owners, to
contact their local vets and book their pet in to be desexed,” Mr Montgomery said.
The Valentine’s Adoption Sale is on from 8 to 14 February 2023.
Adult cats – $29.00 and selected adult dogs $99.00.
