The Ipswich community is being encouraged to boost their online safety skills at a free Cyber Security Expo hosted by the Queensland Police Service’s Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit.
The event will be held on Saturday, 18 October, from 4pm to 6pm at the Riverview and District Community Centre, 138 Old Ipswich Road, Riverview. An outdoor family movie screening of Ralph Breaks the Internet will follow the expo, with food trucks, a free petting zoo, and face painting from 6pm.
Sergeant Nadine Webster said the event aims to educate residents of all ages about cyber safety, scams, and online confidence. “We don’t want people to be scared to get online, but we do want them to use it safely,” she said.
The expo will feature exhibitors from the Queensland Police Financial and Cyber Crime Group, Australian Federal Police ThinkUKnow program, Bank of Queensland, ANZ, and Westpac, alongside the local Crime Prevention Unit. Visitors will be able to ask questions, access resources, and take home free information packs.
Hosted by the Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit, Riverview Neighbourhood Watch, and the Ipswich District Neighbourhood Watch Committee, the event is supported by Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.
The Cyber Safety Expo coincides with Get Online Week (20–26 October), a national campaign promoting digital inclusion and online safety across Australia.
Families are encouraged to bring a picnic rug and enjoy the free evening of learning and entertainment. For more information, contact the Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit on 3817 1351.
