A new transport solution is shaking up how people with disability and aged care needs get around Ipswich and beyond — and it’s called Get Picked Up.
Featured on this week’s All Ability Hour on West Bremer Radio, Queensland State Manager Naren joined hosts at Focal Community Services to share how the rapidly growing service is providing safe, reliable and affordable transport for people with additional needs across Australia.
“We focus on transport only,” Naren said. “Our goal is to give people with disability and aged care needs a consistent and caring alternative to traditional taxis or rideshare services.”
Operating across the Ipswich region and all metro areas nationwide, Get Picked Up supports people with mobility issues, including those using wheelchairs, and is fully compatible with NDIS and aged care home package funding. Riders can also pay out of pocket if needed.
What sets Get Picked Up apart is its 24/7 customer service, prepaid system, and a ‘preferred driver’ option — allowing clients to choose drivers they trust. All drivers undergo police checks, NDIS screening, and specific training to support those with additional needs.
“We had one young man with autism who was traumatised by a previous taxi experience,” Narin recalled. “Our driver worked gently with him over time — now he’s riding confidently and independently again.”
The service has already helped more than 500 Queenslanders in its first year of operation in the state and is scaling up rapidly.
