On this week’s All Ability Hour on West Bremer Radio, host DJ Sparky and Patty from Focal Community Services welcomed Heidi, a new participant at Focal who is embracing new skills and friendships.

Heidi, who recently finished school, has been attending cooking, art, and stepping out ladies’ groups, gaining confidence and independence. “You learn more than in school,” she shared. “You get to meet people and make friends.”

Her passion for barista work was a key topic, with Heidi expressing her interest in learning more about coffee-making skills. Focal is considering expanding its life skills program to include barista training, as many participants are interested in hospitality careers.

Outside of Focal, Heidi enjoys spending time with her two cats, Coco and Melody, and living independently in a granny flat at home. While her dream job might be veterinary work, for now, she’s eager to pursue barista opportunities.

Anyone looking to support Heidi in gaining experience in a café setting can reach out to Focal Community Services.
