Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding is spreading festive cheer, while also sharing exciting updates on the city’s progress and projects.
Christmas Festivities in Full Swing
The 29th Annual Ipswich Toy Run kicked off the holiday spirit with hundreds of riders delivering over three truckloads of toys to the Salvation Army. “The bikers not only rode with holiday cheer but also dressed their bikes and themselves in festive costumes, making it a memorable event,” Mayor Harding said.
The festivities continue with the much-anticipated St Nicholas Precinct, a signature Christmas attraction in the Nicholas Street Precinct. Running from November 30 to December 22, the immersive light display features a refreshed concept and layout to accommodate new dining venues and live entertainment. Special sensory and seniors’ nights are planned to ensure inclusivity.
Parking is free after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends, making it even easier for families to enjoy the spectacle.
Environmental Milestone
In a move to preserve Ipswich’s natural environment, council approved the purchase of 32 hectares of land at South Ripley, expanding Ipswich’s koala habitat. Funded through the Enviroplan levy, this acquisition will link White Rock Spring Mountain and Flinders-Goolman conservation estates, creating a vital ecological corridor.
“This is a significant step in protecting koala habitats and other native flora and fauna amidst Ipswich’s rapid growth,” Mayor Harding noted. The council has already secured over 7,000 hectares for environmental protection under this program.
Cameron Park Gets a Makeover
Booval’s popular Cameron Park is set to reopen with exciting new features, including an in-ground trampoline, all-abilities swings, a ninja play course, and renovated amenities. The upgrade, based on community feedback, promises fun for families and children this summer.
With holiday excitement building and meaningful projects advancing, Ipswich is embracing the season while planning for a sustainable future.
