After a rain-soaked week that disrupted local fixtures, Ipswich Cricket is ready to bounce back with a packed weekend of matches across divisions.

The men’s first grade team faced tough competition against Souths last weekend, managing 108 in their first innings before Souths posted 167. Jack Wood stood out for Ipswich with a brisk 48 off 39 balls, but Souths’ bowler Gurinder Sandhu stole the show with an impressive 7/26. Ipswich now aims for a turnaround in the second innings, needing quick runs and a strong bowling performance to push for an outright win.

In second grade, Ipswich will face Souths in a one-day match after last week’s washout. With three players stepping up to first grade this weekend, including Jack and Harry Wood, and Jim Ryan, who’s pursuing a significant opportunity, second grade welcomes fresh talent to the lineup. President Simon Emerson expressed pride in the program’s depth and development, noting the strong performance of the young squad, currently positioned fourth on the ladder.

The women’s teams are also in action, with matches against University of Queensland and Souths. Emerson highlighted the importance of these fixtures for the continued development of Ipswich’s female players.

A major highlight for the club is Jem Ryan’s selection in the prestigious Prime Minister’s XI to play against India, starting Sunday. Ryan, who rose through Ipswich’s cricket pathways, has impressed with his hard work and dedication, earning recognition at the state level. “This is as cool as it gets,” Emerson said. “The entire club is proud of Jim, and it’s a reminder of the opportunities available to young players with effort and determination.”

With fixtures lined up and promising talent on display, Ipswich Cricket is eager to make the most of the weekend’s games.
