Cyclists across South-East Queensland are ‘gearing’ up for the Recruitment 24/7 Ipswich100 charity bike ride held on Sunday, March 27, 2022.
This year will mark the 23rd year the Moggill-Mt Crosby Lions Club has staged the charity bike ride in Ipswich and the Scenic Rim region and for the first time, have engaged with local athletes to represent the ride as Ambassadors.
Ipswich residents and professional athletes, Bec Ungermann and Jarrod Harvey have been selected as the 2022 Ipswich100 Ambassadors. Professional Triathlete, Jarrod Harvey said he was thrilled to be representing the ride for 2022.

“The ride supports great charities and I just think it’s such a lovely ride,” said Mr Harvey.
“I now live in Ripley, but I was born in Boonah, and the ride goes out through my hometown and out the back, it’s great!”
Bec joined Jarrod with his enthusiasm.
“I’ve grown up in Ipswich my whole life and I’ve been getting into cycling the last 21 years, so I am really excited to be a part of the Ipswich100. It’s a great ride!”
The ride is designed to allow cyclists to test their fitness, have fun and support worthy local causes such as the Ipswich Hospital Foundation, the McIntyre Centre, Epilepsy Queensland, Hear and Say and State Emergency Services Queensland.
Ride Manager, Gordon Brown said the four rides are catered for all levels including the challenging Imperial 100 miles (169km) to 100km, 50km and a 25km family-focused bike ride.
“Since the year 2000, we have raised more than $1.3 million for local charities,” he said.
The ride is being held in partnership with the Ipswich Hospital Foundation with the support of major sponsors, Recruitment 24/7, St Andrews Private Hospital, Exact Radiology and West Bremer Radio.
Mr Brown said each ride will start and finish at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Springfield campus.
“Riders will pass through rolling farm and bushland of the Scenic Rim with spectacular views to the Great Divide and Cunningham’s Gap,” he said.
Mr Brown said the University of Southern Queensland Sports and Exercise Department will run a complimentary five-part seminar series aimed at ensuring riders feel prepared for the riders before, during and understand how to recover.
USQ Senior Lecturer in Exercise Physiology Dr Dean Mills will be kicking off the first complimentary seminar on Wednesday, March 2nd with ‘Nutrition to last the distance.’
“The main focus is to provide some direction and guidance to the participants of the event to help them optimise their nutrition and their hydration,” said Dr Mills.
Nutrition to last the distance will be held online via zoom from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
The remaining four free seminars will be held throughout March online and on-campus at USQ Ipswich.
Ipswich100 founder and driving force, Dr Bob McGregor said he was excited to see the 23rd event unfold and reminisced on the events’ humble beginnings.
“We place a major emphasis on the importance of rider safety and support including direction signage, course marshals, rest stops with complimentary sports drinks, fruit, food and sunscreen.”
“Moggill-Mt Crosby Lions Club is a small club and the Ipswich100 could not happen without the strong support of local volunteers from the clubs in Ipswich, Rosewood, Harrisville,
Fassifern and Boonah as well as the Ipswich State Emergency Service.
“The Ipswich100 is the original and best ride in SEQ.
“And we look forward to seeing you there.”
