Ipswich MP Jennifer Howard shared several exciting developments in the city during her weekly “State of Play” segment on West Bremer Radio. With the Queensland state election just a month away, Howard has been busy focusing on local projects and community engagement.
One of the standout topics was the ongoing success of the 50-cent public transport fares. While Howard herself hasn’t used the fares yet due to her busy schedule, she reported positive feedback from commuters, with more people opting for public transport and road congestion decreasing. The initiative has exceeded expectations, and the state government plans to make it permanent if re-elected.
Howard also celebrated a $93,000 grant awarded to the Ipswich Hospital Foundation. The funds will be used to purchase cutting-edge ultrasound machines that will assist healthcare professionals with intravenous procedures, improving the experience for patients and staff alike. “It will make a huge difference to people with hard-to-access veins,” Howard remarked.
The Brothers Leagues Club’s 50th anniversary was another highlight, with the club hosting a massive family fun day to mark the occasion. Howard praised the club for its community involvement, noting the festive atmosphere with food stalls, rides, and entertainment.
Additionally, Howard discussed the new social housing project in Booval, which is designed to help senior women, including those escaping domestic violence. “It’s a project very close to my heart,” she said, emphasizing its importance in tackling the housing crisis in Ipswich.
In other updates, Howard touched on the state government’s stronger composting laws, which have resulted in a restraint order against NuGrow, requiring the company to upgrade its facility to reduce nuisance odors. She also celebrated 45 years of the Zonta Club and the success of local military upgrades at the 11th Engineer Regiment.
These projects reflect Howard’s commitment to improving the lives of Ipswich residents ahead of the upcoming election.
