Jennifer Howard, MP for Ipswich, shared key updates and reflections during her first State of Play appearance following the recent Queensland election.

Parliament Resumes with Formalities

Howard confirmed the 58th Queensland Parliament’s first sitting week will begin next Tuesday. It will feature formalities, including the official opening and the swearing-in of new members such as Ipswich West MP Wendy Bourne. “Thursday will mark our first sitting day in opposition, an important moment for reflection and direction,” Howard said.

Graduation Season Highlights

Howard also attended milestone celebrations at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), including the final graduation for outgoing Chancellor John Dornbusch. Over his tenure, Dornbusch has personally congratulated nearly 20,000 graduates. “It was a pleasure to witness such an incredible legacy,” Howard noted.

Additionally, she recognized the 669 year-12 graduates from her electorate. “It’s a time of joy and new beginnings, and I wish all of them a bright future as they step into the next chapter of their lives,” she said.

Reflecting on Remembrance Day

Howard praised the Ipswich RSL for its dedication to honoring the sacrifices of Australian Defence Force personnel. “As we mark 80 years since the end of World War II, it’s vital to reflect on the bravery that shaped our society,” she said.

Exploring Nicholas Street Precinct

Howard shared her experience visiting Ipswich’s revitalized Nicholas Street precinct, enjoying ten-pin bowling, dining at Hotel Commonwealth, and catching a film at the new Hoyts cinema. “It’s a world-class addition to our city, and I encourage residents to support it,” she said.
