Ipswich MP Jennifer Howard has been advocating for improved bus services in Ripley Valley, addressing health concerns from landfill odors, and celebrating community-driven initiatives in the region.
Push for Better Bus Services in Ripley Valley
Howard and Bundamba MP Lance McCallum have launched a petition to improve bus services in Ripley, after reports of students waiting up to 90 minutes for transport. Some students living just five kilometers away from school are not getting home until after 5 PM.
“The school has been working with Bus Queensland on a solution that doesn’t even require more buses—just better scheduling,” Howard said. Residents can sign the petition on her Facebook page.
Remembering Berris Evans and Ipswich’s Coal Mining Heritage
Howard paid tribute in Parliament to Berris Evans, former president of the Ipswich Rosewood Coal Miners Memorial Trust, who passed away on July 31, 2023—the anniversary of the Box Flat disaster. Evans played a pivotal role in the creation of the Limestone Park miners’ memorial.
Public Health Inquiry into Ipswich Odors
The LNP Government has launched an inquiry into possible health effects from the odors caused by landfill sites in Ipswich. Howard encourages residents to participate in the inquiry and use the Queensland Environment website’s real-time air quality monitoring tool to track pollution levels.
Ipswich’s First Regional Sports Academy and Hospital Car Park
Howard is backing the Ipswich Regional Sports Academy, a collaboration between Bremer State High and UniSQ, aimed at supporting young athletes with elite coaching, academic assistance, and nutritional support.
Meanwhile, the much-needed Ipswich Hospital car park is progressing quickly, though residents should expect some temporary disruptions as construction continues.
