Ipswich is preparing for a significant week of remembrance, with Mayor Teresa Harding saying the city will once again come together in force for Anzac Day commemorations across the region.
The Mayor said Ipswich will host 23 services and marches on Anzac Day, with the city’s main march set to begin at the corner of Brisbane and Waghorn streets at 10.45am before making its way to Tulmur Place. Around 3,000 participants have already registered to take part in the march, highlighting the scale of community support for the annual event.
Mayor Harding said she would take her place on the saluting dais alongside representatives from RAAF Base Amberley and the Ipswich RSL, describing it as a proud and special moment for the city. She said many residents traditionally begin the day at the wreath-laying ceremony at the Soldiers Memorial Hall before gathering along Brisbane Street for the larger parade.
Ipswich City Council has committed $37,000 in funding to help support commemorative events across suburbs including Brassall, Bundamba, Marburg, Pine Mountain, Redbank, Rosewood, Springfield and Woodend. The funding helps local organisers with practical costs such as traffic management and event support.

The Mayor also marked another milestone for the city, attending the 160th anniversary celebration of the Ipswich Horticultural Society. During the event, speakers reflected on the long history of the society and its social motto, “friendships through flowers”, while also discussing the preservation of endangered native plant species in the region.
Meanwhile, the newly formed Western Corridor Community Alliance has continued to build momentum, with local residents, councillors and guest speakers meeting to discuss future growth in suburbs such as Walloon, Thagoona and Rosewood. The group is providing community feedback on planning issues including schools, utilities and transport infrastructure.
Mayor Harding also confirmed that work has begun on the next stage of redevelopment at the Ipswich Showgrounds, with preparations continuing ahead of this year’s Ipswich Show.
