The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is encouraging Ipswich residents and business owners to register their CCTV systems as part of the Community Camera Alliance, a crime prevention initiative aimed at improving public safety and solving crimes faster.

Senior Constable Shantelle Dowell of the Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit explained that CCTV footage plays a crucial role in modern policing, helping to investigate and solve serious crimes. “CCTV vision is regularly used as evidence, reducing investigation time and leading to swifter outcomes,” she said.

How the Community Camera Alliance Works
The program is open to all owners or operators of CCTV systems in the Ipswich Police District. Once registered, the system’s location is stored securely in QPS’s internal database (QPrime), accessible only by police officers. If an incident occurs nearby, police can contact registered owners to request footage that may assist in solving crimes.

How to Register Your CCTV System
Residents and businesses can complete a registration form at their local police station or online via mypolice.qld.gov.au/ipswich. If a registered system is relocated or removed, owners can notify police to update or remove their details.

Real-Life Success
Senior Constable Dowell highlighted how the system has already helped Ipswich locals. “One resident who had registered their CCTV captured an offender jumping a fence and dropping a rubber glove. Thanks to their footage, police were able to investigate further and use the evidence in their case,” she said.
