Ipswich’s creative community is celebrating another successful Ipswich Show, with first-time entrant Rebecca Oliver taking out champion of the fine art section.

Oliver also won the still life section, placed second in portraiture and sold her winning work, marking a standout result in her first Ipswich Show appearance.

Young artist Kayla Clark was also recognised with an encouragement award and sold three artworks during the show. Clark, who works across mixed media and drawing, said she enjoys creating bird-themed works, particularly inspired by her love of chickens.

The show’s arts section was described as a strong success, with organisers praising the range of local talent on display across fine art and photography.

Meanwhile, Ipswich author and arts identity Arthur Frame is preparing for a Chasing Our Past presentation at Ipswich Libraries on Tuesday, June 9.

The talk will focus on his book “The Arts Juggler”, which explores growing up in Ipswich during the 1950s and 60s, the city’s industry, architecture, historic homes, theatre and local stories.

Frame, who won the Viva Cribb Bursary to support publication of the book, said the work also records the stories of people who made major contributions to Ipswich’s cultural life.

The free library event runs from 6pm to 7.30pm, with bookings available through Ipswich Libraries.
