Ipswich City Council has confirmed the 2026 Ipswich Show public holiday will be held on Friday, 15 May.
Division 3 Councillor Andrew Antoniolli said the date has been sent to the Queensland Government’s Industrial Relations Office for formal approval.

“The Ipswich Show has been running since 1873 and attracts around 30,000 visitors each year—it’s a huge boost for our local economy,” Cr Antoniolli said.
More details on next year’s event are available at ipswichshow.com.au.

In other council news, road resurfacing and rehabilitation works will begin mid-August in Bundamba and Dinmore, continuing until mid-October. Streets scheduled for upgrades include Wade, Cray and Cullen streets in Bundamba, and Williams Street in Dinmore.
Works will run from 7am to 5pm daily, with potential local access restrictions. Cr Antonelli said the wet weather of recent years had “taken a pummelling” on local roads, making the repairs essential.

Motorists are also being asked to remain patient as major drainage works on Blackall Street, East Ipswich continue to cause traffic congestion, particularly during the morning peak. The project is expected to take several more weeks to complete.

Meanwhile, nominations close this Sunday for the annual Ipswich Sports Awards. There are eight categories recognising athletes, coaches, officials, and sporting organisations, with winners to be announced in late October.

“Ipswich has produced world-class athletes like Ash Barty, Shane Watson, Alfie Langer and Ali Brigginshaw,” Cr Antoniolli said. “These awards are our chance to recognise the next generation of sporting stars.”

Nomination details are available on the Ipswich City Council website.
