Professionals working with children and young people are invited to attend the Ipswich District Child Protection Week Symposium, taking place on Monday, September 9, as part of National Child Protection Week (September 7–13).
Held at Catalyst Church, 142 Pine Mountain Road, Brassall, from 9am to 1pm, the symposium is designed as a professional development and engagement event for child and youth service providers, school staff, health professionals, and human services students.
“It’s a chance to engage with experts, build knowledge, and promote safer environments for our most vulnerable,” said Senior Constable Kerrin Sheedy on West Bremer Radio’s Crime Watch segment.
Organised by the Ipswich District Child Protection Week Committee—which includes the Queensland Police Service, Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs, Ipswich Community Youth Service, Ipswich City Council, and Somerset Regional Council—the event will highlight real-world experiences, trauma-informed care, and the power of therapeutic relationships.
Expert Speakers Include:
- Sarah O’Regan (Evolve Therapeutic Services) – Exploring connection, care and healing in youth.
- Jill Clark (Clinical Psychologist, QPS) – Supporting child victims of sexual crime.
- Rochelle from Play and Beyond – The value of play-based therapy.
- Farani Burns (young person), supported by Life Without Barriers, Next Step Plus Ipswich Program
