Ipswich West MP Wendy Bourne is backing calls for Ipswich to secure the NRL’s 20th licence, saying the city’s rugby league history and rapid population growth make it the right choice.
Ms Bourne said Ipswich was ready for a national team, with $40 million already committed to upgrading North Ipswich Reserve into a centre of excellence. She said while other regions may be interested, Ipswich had the strongest case.
The MP also welcomed $9 million in federal funding for a new Rosewood Early Childhood Centre, saying the investment would help local children access early learning before starting school.
She said the centre would support families in the growing Rosewood area and help ensure children arrive at prep ready to learn.

Ms Bourne also reflected on Anzac Day commemorations across Ipswich West, including the Rosewood Dawn Service, which she said attracted a large and growing crowd. Across the electorate, nine services were held on Anzac Day, with 14 services across 11 locations during the week.
On the arts front, Ms Bourne opened local artist Katherine Nielsen’s first solo exhibition, Body Landscape, at the Ipswich Community Gallery. The exhibition follows Nielsen’s recent Young Artist Prize win at the Queensland Regional Art Awards and runs until May 3.
She also visited Skilling Queenslanders for Work participants in Walloon during Youth Week, praising the program for helping young people gain practical skills and employment pathways.
