It’s a big week for movie lovers at Limelight Cinemas with a mix of outrageous comedy, pulse-pounding action, star-studded drama and classic favourites returning to the big screen.

Leading the lineup is The Naked Gun: Reloaded, which officially opens after weeks of advanced screenings. Starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, the slapstick revival promises over-the-top laughs and chaotic crime-fighting antics, with Neeson trading his tough Taken persona for a bumbling cop audiences “never actually want on their case.”

For those after more intensity, Primitive War transports audiences to 1968 Vietnam, where a recon squad stumbles across a prehistoric predator lurking in the jungle. The film blends gritty war drama with Jurassic-style terror.

Also new this week is Eddington, a gripping small-town thriller produced by Ari Aster. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler and Emma Stone, the film explores paranoia, politics and unrest during the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020.

On the nostalgia front, Aussie cult classic Chopper returns for its 25th anniversary, with a special one-night-only screening on Friday. Based on Mark “Chopper” Read’s best-selling memoir, the film cemented its place in Australian cinema history.

Meanwhile, Limelight’s much-loved Crafty Classics sessions return September 1 with Clueless — coinciding with the film’s 30th anniversary. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring knitting, colouring or other quiet crafts while enjoying the cult chick flick on the big screen. The series continues in October with Mean Girls on the film’s official “Mean Girls Day,” October 3.

With blockbuster comedies, tense thrillers, nostalgic re-releases and interactive craft sessions, Limelight is promising something for every movie fan this month.
