LME’s Mission to Support Inclusive Living

A recent edition of The All Ability Hour on West Bremer Radio featured an in-depth conversation with Laura, a representative from LME, an organisation dedicated to empowering people with disabilities through supported accommodation, community access, and meaningful daily programs.

Laura, who moved to Australia from Colombia just before the COVID-19 pandemic, shared her journey into the disability sector and her passion for making a difference. She highlighted that discovering the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) inspired her to pursue a career focused on improving the lives of others.

LME — which stands for Living Your Best Life, Meaningful Connections, and Empathy — has been operating for five to six years and currently manages around 17 homes across Brisbane, from the northern suburbs to the Gold Coast. The organisation provides Supported Independent Living (SIL), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Individualised Living Options (ILO), and community-based day programs through its Woolloongabba hub, Millie’s Place.

During the interview, Laura announced several current accommodation vacancies, including placements in Leichhardt for a male resident and One Mile for a female resident. She emphasised that LME prides itself on creating warm, accessible, homelike environments where participants receive their own house keys and are encouraged to make the space their own.

LME also offers weekday group programs such as cooking, pottery, painting, day outings, and baking — the latter run by a French chef named Gabriel. The organisation’s flexible approach to care allows participants with varying levels of support needs, including those with ILO and SIL funding, to share homes in arrangements that ensure safety and appropriate assistance.
