If you’ve recently yelled at a kettle or fantasised about fleeing to Bali, it might be time to reboot your nervous system—and Loz from Loz Life has the tools to help, that actually work!
Appearing on The Brekkie Club on West Bremer Radio for her weekly “Living Life with Loz” segment, the Ipswich-based author and wellbeing coach offered some unusual yet practical strategies to help listeners decompress.
“Your nervous system isn’t broken—it’s just overstimulated,” Loz explained. “Forget doomscrolling and rage-texting; try one of these instead.”
Her top four tips to calm the chaos include:
- Cold Showers: Start with 15 seconds of icy water at the end of your shower. “It’s like CPR for your vagus nerve,” she said. “It’ll shock you into sanity.”
- Controlled Breathing: Try paced or box breathing to lower stress and stimulate calm. “Your body doesn’t know the difference between email stress and real danger,” she added.
- Humming, Gargling & Shaking: Yes, really. These quirky activities stimulate the vagus nerve and help regulate your system. “You can’t be anxious while humming Beyoncé,” she joked.
- Grounding: Go barefoot outside, touch some grass, or stand on concrete. “Unplug your feet from the Wi-Fi and plug them into the earth.”
Loz’s advice is based on science and practical experience, much of which is covered in her popular book, Get the F Unstuck—available via LozLife.com and Amazon.
“It’s cheaper than therapy, weird but it works—and so do you,” Loz concluded.
