Limelight Cinemas is preparing for one of its biggest releases of the year, with the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic Michael arriving in cinemas this week.
Cinema spokesperson Lex said excitement had been building strongly ahead of the film’s release, with customers regularly asking when the movie would arrive and advance interest proving intense. The film stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, in the title role and traces the King of Pop’s life from his childhood in the Jackson 5 through to his rise as a global superstar.
Lex said one of the standout features of the production is Jaafar Jackson’s performance, describing him as a striking embodiment of Michael Jackson in both appearance and mannerisms. She also noted that the project has strong support from the Jackson family and is produced by Graham King, the same producer behind Bohemian Rhapsody, raising expectations that Michael could enjoy a similarly long and successful cinema run.
Alongside the new release, Limelight is also celebrating the 45th anniversary of Raiders of the Lost Ark, with a one-off screening planned for April 24. The cinema says classic anniversary screenings continue to attract both nostalgic audiences and younger moviegoers seeing iconic titles on the big screen for the first time.
Looking ahead, demand is also building for The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Girls’ Night Out screenings already filling fast. Gold Class sessions have sold out, with additional screenings and themed goodie bags helping drive strong early ticket sales.
Limelight Cinemas will also be open on Anzac Day, with sessions beginning from 1.45pm after a delayed opening at 1.30pm.
As school holidays wind down, the cinema says the next wave of major releases is already keeping staff busy, with Michael expected to be one of the standout draws of the season.
