Ipswich City Council has been making strides in infrastructure, community engagement, and event planning, with Councillor Jacob Madsen highlighting key developments in Division One during his latest update.

New Hidden Vale Road Bridge Open in Calvert

A major infrastructure upgrade in Calvert has seen the completion of the new Hidden Vale Road bridge, replacing the aging timber structure with a modern, two-lane concrete bridge.

“It’s been open for a few months now and replaces an old wooden bridge with a new improved concrete structure,” Cr Madsen said.
“The new bridge can handle heavier vehicles and will hopefully last for another 100 years.”

The upgrade is a significant improvement for local primary producers, who rely on the crossing to transport goods.

Exciting School Holiday Programs

With the Easter holidays approaching, Ipswich City Council is rolling out a range of activities for children and families.

  • Ipswich Libraries will host a robot testing drop-in session for tech-savvy kids.
  • The Active and Healthy program will offer sports, fishing, yoga, bushwalks, and more.
  • Tomah Place in the Nicholas Street Precinct will transform into an “aquatic adventure” experience, featuring hermit crabs, sea urchins, and starfish.

“It’s about giving kids a chance to try something new, whether it’s a sport or an outdoor activity,” Cr Madsen said.

Major Events Driving Tourism and Economy

Ipswich continues to host major events, attracting thousands of visitors and boosting the local economy.

  • Gulf Western Oil Winternationals: The largest drag racing event outside the US, drawing 17,000 attendees each year and injecting over $3 million into the economy.
  • Festival of Horsepower: A month-long celebration of motorsport and racing events.
  • Ipswich Cup 2025: One of Queensland’s biggest race days, with Ipswich City Council confirmed as a major sponsor.

“These events bring huge crowds and are a massive boost for local businesses,” Cr Madsen said.

With infrastructure improvements, exciting community programs, and world-class events, Ipswich is set for a massive year ahead.
