A petition spearheaded by Darren Zanow MP, advocating for urgent upgrades to the Haigslea – Amberley Road interchange on the Warrego Highway, is gaining traction as it approaches 2,000 signatures. The interchange, notorious for its high accident rate, has seen multiple fatalities over the past six months, raising alarms among local residents and frequent highway users.

Zanow emphasised the critical need for an overpass at the interchange, highlighting the dangers it poses, especially during adverse weather conditions. Despite repeated calls for action, the current government has yet to prioritise this project. However, Zanow is determined to keep the pressure on, urging the community to sign the petition available on his Facebook page. With a goal of 3,000 signatures, the petition aims to push the government to allocate necessary funds for this life-saving infrastructure.

In addition to the petition, Zanow’s office is offering free fire ant baits to residents of Ipswich West amid concerns that recent rains could exacerbate the spread of these invasive pests. Constituents can visit his Brassall office for baits and information on how to effectively manage fire ant infestations.

Zanow also addressed the alarming rise in crime within the Ipswich West area, noting that break-ins, assaults, and stolen cars have surged significantly. In response, a community crime forum is being planned to allow residents to voice their concerns and discuss solutions. The forum aims to address the root causes of the escalating crime wave and explore strategies to make the community safer.

As the election approaches, Zanow’s focus remains on advocating for the needs of Ipswich West, from critical infrastructure improvements to addressing local crime and pest control issues. His call for community action through petitions and forums reflects his commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of his constituents.
