Ipswich residents are being encouraged to head to Goodna this Labour Day long weekend as the popular Planes, Trains and Autos Festival rolls back into town.

Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said the long-running community event, now in its sixth year, will take place at Evan Marginson Park on Monday from 2pm to 6pm, featuring classic cars, vintage bikes, retro stalls and live rock and roll entertainment.

“It’s always a great crowd-pleaser,” Cr Tully said, noting last year’s display included rare and historic vehicles that drew strong community interest.

The free event will also include food trucks and dancing, with organisers expecting another strong turnout following large crowds at recent Anzac Day commemorations across the region.

Meanwhile, Ipswich City Council is set to begin upgrades at Robelle Domain in Springfield Central, with works starting May 12 to convert the existing waterfall into a green wall and picnic area.

Cr Tully said the change follows ongoing issues with flooding and costly damage to the current infrastructure.

“We’re replacing it with something more sustainable that won’t be impacted the same way in future weather events,” he said.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of July, with temporary footpath closures and fencing in place during construction.

Closer to Goodna, residents are also being invited to take part in a range of health and fitness activities at the recently refurbished Goodna Community Centre.

The centre, which reopened about a year ago after flood damage, is now hosting term two programs as part of Council’s Active and Healthy initiative.

Activities include Zumba, Pilates, yoga and strength training, with low-cost options available for all ages.

Cr Tully said the programs were a great way for locals to stay active and connected.

“It’s about giving people opportunities to maintain their health and get involved in the community,” he said.

More information on events and programs is available via Ipswich City Council’s website.
