Ipswich’s Limelight Cinemas is bringing more than blockbusters to the big screen these school holidays — with everything from Super Smash Bros. tournaments and the State of Origin decider, to the launch of its new relaxation hit, ‘Snooze Sessions’.

Chatting on the Limelight Cinemas Podcast, venue manager Lex shared a jam-packed list of what’s on this week, from footy finals to superhero premieres and an unlikely new crowd favourite: a rainforest-themed cinema nap.

🦸‍♂️ Superman Soars Into Cinemas

From Thursday, James Gunn’s much-hyped reboot of Superman lands on screens — with early reviews praising David Corenswet’s portrayal of the Man of Steel as “vibrant, hopeful, and action-packed.”

“The chemistry between Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan is off the charts,” Lex said. “This is the comic book Superman fans have been waiting for.”

The film will screen in both XD and Gold Class, with options to recline in luxury while the team brings snacks to your seat.

🎮 Super Smash Bros. Tournament Returns

Gamers, take note: July 13 sees the return of the Super Smash Bros. Tournament, hosted in Gold Class where players can compete in style with console in hand and food delivered to their seat.

“You don’t even have to move — the game’s on the big screen, the snacks come to you. What more do you want?” Lex joked.

🌿 Introducing ‘Snooze Sessions’ – Yes, Really

In a first-of-its-kind concept, Limelight has launched cinema ‘Snooze Sessions’, where audiences are encouraged to nap for two hours in a darkened cinema accompanied by peaceful rainforest visuals and soft soundscapes.

“It’s quiet, it’s warm, it’s dark — and no kids interrupting you,” Lex said. “You can literally book a nap on a daybed.”

Due to high demand, another session has been added for Friday, August 1 at 12pm — perfect for sneaking in a midweek recharge.

🍿 Still Showing: Family Blockbusters

Limelight is also continuing its blockbuster family lineup, including:

  • Smurfs, featuring Rihanna as Smurfette
  • Elio, highly recommended for neurodivergent children
  • How to Train Your Dragon (Live Action)
  • Lilo & Stitch

Family passes and $20 kids’ tickets in Gold Class are available.
