Division 1 is buzzing with activity as Ipswich prepares for a vibrant mid-year school holiday period and the return of the Spark Ipswich Festival, with local Councillor Pye Augustine confirming a packed program for families, children, and the wider community.

Appearing on West Bremer Radio, Cr Augustine said Little Day Out, one of Spark’s most popular family events, will return to Ripley Town Centre on Sunday, July 20, capping off the 10-day festival.

“This year we’ve got Dirt Girl’s Garden Party — the kids are going to love it. Last year was amazing, and we’re expecting another sell-out,” Cr Augustine said. “There’ll be music, dancing, creative workshops and even a silent disco — something for every little one.”

Little Day Out will run two sessions — morning and afternoon — to accommodate growing demand. Tickets are available now via ipswichfestivals.com.au.

🎒 School Holiday Fun at Libraries

With school holidays kicking off, local libraries are also gearing up with interactive, hands-on activities. At Redbank Plains Library, kids can test-drive real robots at the “Road Test a Robot” event on June 30 at 12pm — no bookings required.

Other library highlights include:

  • iSpy Dance On — an interactive scavenger hunt of dance moves hidden among the bookshelves,
  • The Book Bingo Reading Challenge, and
  • Access to scenic outdoor adventures like the Spring Mountain Conservation Estate for those craving nature.

“There’s plenty to keep kids entertained and engaged — and give parents a breather too,” Cr Augustine joked.

🚧 Champions Way Rehabilitation Underway

Council has also commenced major drainage rehabilitation works at Champions Way in Deebing Heights, addressing ongoing erosion and stormwater concerns that impact local sports and recreation users.

The works began in early June and are expected to be completed by January 2026, with construction taking place Monday to Friday, 6am to 6pm.

“There’ll be some disruptions with heavy machinery, noise, and traffic changes,” Cr Augustine said. “But the project is essential to stop erosion and protect this high-use precinct.”

❤️ Community First

Cr Augustine, known for her tireless community presence, said she’ll be out and about throughout the holidays — and was recently seen dazzling in red at the Ipswich Cup.

“Yes, I may have turned a few heads — but it’s always a pleasure to represent Division 1 wherever I go,” she laughed.
