As the temperature drops and the mornings get darker, many people find it harder to stay motivated to work out. But according to Loz from Loz Life, keeping active through the colder months is essential for boosting energy, improving mood, and maintaining healthy habits.
Speaking on West Bremer Radio’s Brekkie Club, Loz shared practical tips for staying on track with fitness goals—even when it’s chilly outside.
How to Stay Motivated in Cold Weather
Loz emphasized that the key to staying active in winter starts with a mindset shift.
“People see autumn and winter as a barrier, but it’s really an opportunity,” she said. “It doesn’t have to be an intense outdoor workout—anything counts when motivation is low.”
She suggested these strategies for staying on track:
✅ Schedule workouts like appointments – Block out time in your calendar and treat it as non-negotiable.
✅ Find alternatives to outdoor workouts – Try YouTube workouts, fitness apps, or online personal training.
✅ Join a gym – Many gyms offer winter discounts to encourage new members.
✅ Stay active in everyday life – Do squats while brushing your teeth, dance while cooking, or take walking meetings.
“Keep Moving” – The Key to Long-Term Fitness
Loz warned that stopping exercise completely in winter can lead to “motion starvation”, making it harder to restart when the weather warms up.
“Our bodies are like cars in winter—if you leave them sitting too long, they’ll struggle to start again,” she said. “Keep moving, even in small ways, so you don’t lose momentum.”

For more advice on staying motivated, Loz recommends her book “Get the Unstuck”, available in physical, eBook, and audiobook formats from LozLife.com, Audible, Kindle, and Apple Books.
“There are no excuses for staying stuck,” she said. “Stay active and think outside the box!”
