Ipswich Hospital Acute Haemodialysis Unit:
This brand new Acute Haemodialysis Unit at Ipswich Hospital is going to make an enormous difference for Ipswich residents living with kidney disease.
It will mean better health services closer to home, with capacity for up to 72 haemodialysis sessions every single week.
We know that Ipswich is one of Queensland’s fastest growing areas, which is why the Palaszczuk Government’s $22 million expansion of Ipswich Hospital is so important.
Youth Co Responder:
On the 28th of July, the Palaszczuk Government launched a Youth Co-Responder Team for Ipswich.
This team sees police partnering with Youth Justice workers 24/7 to find young people at risk of offending and link them up with whatever services might help turn them around – mental health, DV, drug counselling.
These early intervention teams are launching all around Queensland and we are seeing some incredible results!
IPSWICH Junior Speech and Drama Eisteddfod:
The Ipswich Junior Speech and Drama Eisteddfod is a long-established institution in Ipswich, and I’m very proud to support it. Their awards evening was held on Wednesday night and a number of young talented performers were recognised for their outstanding achievements during the eisteddfod. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it to the awards evening due to being unwell
Ipswich Park2Park:
I was pleased to once again open the Ipswich Park2Park. A big thanks to all the amazing volunteers and schools who get involved and of course, a huge thanks to our Ipswich Hospital Foundation for continuing this fantastic local event which was started by our beloved Tom Yates all those years ago when he was CEO. Box Flat Mining Disaster Memorial:
It was an honour to attend the Box Flat Memorial Day Service to commemorate the 17 men who tragically lost their lives in the Box Flat Mine explosion on 31 July 1972, and the 18th man who died on 20 February 1974 as a result of his injuries. I want to express my gratitude to the team at the Ipswich Historical Society Inc. who organised the memorial service and who continue to preserve the memory of the miners who lost their lives 51 years ago.
$8 Million for Crisis Accommodation Pilot Program:
$8 million has been allocated to develop and pilot a new service delivery model to integrate support for victim-survivors experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness due to domestic and family violence (DFV). The pilot prgram includes nine specialist workers embedded across Toowoomba, Brisbane and Moreton Bay. These specialist Housing Connectors will manage safety and assist Queenslanders in navigating the housing and human services systems, while helping to locate suitable and sustainable housing and support referrals.
Ipswich Girl Guides 100th Anniversary:
On the 28th of July 1923, Ipswich Girl Guides first formed, with a whopping 74 members at its first meeting. Today I was proud to join the Centenary celebrations and share in the history as we plan for the future. Women and girls across the world have never enjoyed equal status and sadly there’s still a way to go. But the gains we have made are largely due to organisations like Girl Guides Australia who have provided mentors and role models for girls who have learned valuable skills like leadership, empowerment and the value and benefits of women supporting women. Congratulations again to Ipswich Girl Guides for this impressive milestone and for putting on such a wonderful day of celebrations.
