This weekend, Marburg will host its much-anticipated Great Marburg Bake Off, an event sure to delight baking enthusiasts and cake lovers alike. Councillor Pye Augustine joined The Breakky Club to share her excitement for the event, admitting that while her baking skills may be lacking, she’s eager to see the experts in action.
“I can’t bake to save myself,” Augustine joked. “I’ve tried macarons, chocolate cakes, but they just don’t turn out. However, I can cook a mean chicken curry!”
The event, held at the Marburg Church of Christ, is set for Saturday, September 30. From 10:30 a.m., visitors can view the baked goods and sample some of the best treats the community has to offer. The judging will begin at 11:30 a.m., with live feedback provided to the entrants—a unique feature that sets this bake-off apart from traditional show cookery competitions.
Councillor Augustine highlighted the variety of categories in the competition. “We’ve got a chocolate cake category, which I failed at, decorated cakes, and of course, the People’s Choice award, where attendees can have their say. There’s also a category for decorated biscuits, and my personal favorite—jam drops. I love a good jam drop!”
The event promises a fun, family-friendly day out, with a chance to enjoy delicious treats and witness the talents of local bakers. Whether you’re a participant or a spectator, the Great Marburg Bake Off is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
