Tickets are in high demand for the upcoming Ipswich District Child Protection Week Symposium, with organisers urging people to book quickly before the August 27 deadline.
The symposium, to be held on Monday, September 9 at Catalyst Church, Brassall, is part of National Child Protection Week (7–13 September) and will bring together frontline professionals and community leaders to address issues surrounding child safety and wellbeing.
Senior Constable Keren Sheedy said the annual event offers valuable professional development for child and youth service providers, school support staff, health professionals, and human services students.
“This symposium is about education, engagement, and strengthening the network of people working to protect children in our community,” Snr Constable Sheedy said.
The event has been organised by the Ipswich District Child Protection Week Committee, which includes the Queensland Police Service, Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs, ICYS Ipswich Community Youth Service, Ipswich City Council and Somerset Regional Council.
This year’s line-up of guest speakers features:
- Sarah O’Regan (Evolve Therapeutic Services) – speaking on the power of connection and healing relationships for young people with attachment difficulties.
- Jill Clark (Queensland Police Service clinical psychologist) – discussing support for victims of sexual crime, particularly children.
- Rochelle from Play and Beyond – on play-based therapy for kids.
- Farani Burns (Life Without Barriers, Next Step Plus Ipswich) – sharing lived experience insights.
