As temperatures soar across southeast Queensland, many residents are battling a familiar summer struggle — feeling exhausted before the day even begins. According to wellness coach Loz, who joined West Bremer Radio’s DJ Sparky for the weekly Live Some Life with Loz segment, there’s a reason the heat wipes us out — and some simple steps to fight back.
Loz says Australian summer heat and humidity drain energy far more than people realise. Even simple tasks, like hanging out the washing, “feel like an extreme sport” once the mercury rises.
Her first message is clear: hydration isn’t optional. When the body is dehydrated, energy plummets, headaches form, and irritability rises. Loz says many people make the mistake of gulping water late in the day, but by the time you feel thirsty, “you’re already cooked.” Instead, aim for steady water intake throughout the day and avoid sugary drinks that offer little real hydration.
Her second tip: eat light, but eat right. The heat often suppresses appetite until nighttime, causing people to overeat later. Loz suggests small, frequent meals with lean protein, such as salads with chicken, cold rolls, fruit with yoghurt, or poke bowls. “Summer isn’t the season to eat like a python swallowing one giant meal,” she joked.
Finally, Loz recommends adjusting movement habits to avoid burnout. “Move smart, not silly,” she says. That means avoiding midday workouts and instead exercising earlier or later in the day, or shortening sessions to stay safe in the heat.
For those wanting extra support to survive the season with energy intact, Loz invites listeners to join her Mojo Dojo Academy—her online hub for habits, balance, and wellbeing. (lozlife.com)
